Breaking my heart open and leading with vulnerability

“Staying vulnerable is a risk we have to take if we want to experience connection.” — Brené Brown

A recurring notion has been playing on my mind these past few weeks. It’s one of vulnerability. It’s about the wisdom and power that lies in us wearing our vulnerability proudly in the world.

In a quest to better connect with my intuition and inner voice. I’m heeding the tug of my heart that is telling me a version of this:

“lead with your vulnerability, it will heal you and others in ways you never imagined possible."

At the turn of the year, one of my goals was to ditch the need to look good in the eyes of others. It’s something I've worked on for a while, yet now and again I still find myself seeking the approval of others.

Even though I know most others who comment on my life or offer their ‘guidance’ are even more lost and chaotic than me.

This is a personality trait I’ve chipped away at for years — now I’m deciding to put that chipping away on steroids.

I’m vowing to share my vulnerability more. I want to share the ways I’m alchemising that pain into purpose, passion, and power. In the hope of stepping closer to my healing and shining a healing light on others.

My raw letter to the world

Dear world,

I’m a wounded healer. A battered soul. My heart has been broken 1000 times, and I’ve put it back together 1000 times. Even though, in some parts, the imaginary duct tape holding the pieces together is beginning to loosen.

I’m no wise sage. I’ve often not had my shit together. And many people have taken my heart for a hellish, nightmarish dance too many times to count.

I’ve been broken by the world, and the last of my will lay to waste in barren lands. I’m not Wonder Woman, Superwoman, or, heck, not even Catwoman.

I’m a woman who’s riding the wave of life. Constantly trying to make lemonade out of the many lemons life has thrown my way.

I often play dodgeball, with the broken dreams that dash past me. And I’m ever reaching out for the next happiness fix.

I have loved and lost in equal measure (who hasn't?). I’ve known shame, despair, loneliness, and sheer exhaustion. That has killed the last of my will and zest for life.

Yet each time I pick up my fragmented pieces and rebuild. I’m a fighter to my bones. I know no other way.

So there I’ve said it.

I’m an imperfect soul on a quest to still paint a masterpiece of my life. I vow to do this despite the odds and in spite of the hurts.

I want you to know if you resonate with this pity-party picture I’ve painted. You’re not alone in your humanness. You deserve a better, sweeter, more light-filled life.

I beseech you to wear your armour of vulnerability and pain. Walking through life as proudly as you can. Your story and your vision still have powerful medicine for the world.

Perhaps your vulnerability and your pain are the true sources of happiness you’ve been looking for.

Love

Egypt.
